The short answer: yes, FragranceNet is a legitimate retailer. It has been selling fragrance online since 1997, ships from its own US warehouses, and has a large, mostly positive review history. It's cheaper than department stores because it buys genuine products through secondary distribution rather than directly from every brand, which has a few trade-offs worth knowing before you order.
Who is FragranceNet?
FragranceNet (which also trades as Fragrance.com) is a discount beauty retailer based in Deer Park, New York. By its own account it started in 1997 selling fragrance on the streets of New York City, grew into one of the largest online fragrance stores in the US, and today runs three warehouses and four retail stores with around 400 staff. It says it has shipped more than 40 million packages and carries over 40,000 fragrance, skincare, makeup and haircare products. In 2018 it was acquired by B&S Group, a European distributor of beauty and luxury goods.
Are FragranceNet perfumes real?
FragranceNet states that everything it sells is 100% original, with no imitations or knock-offs, and the overwhelming majority of customer reviews agree. It also sells testers and unboxed bottles: testers are the same fragrance made by the brand for store counters, often in a plain box or without a cap; unboxed bottles are regular stock whose packaging was damaged or removed. Both are genuine and simply cheaper because the packaging isn't retail-ready.
Why is FragranceNet so cheap?
Most luxury brands only list department stores, their own boutiques and a few select sites as authorised sellers. Discount retailers like FragranceNet typically buy genuine stock through secondary channels: distributors, overstock, discontinued lines and the so-called grey market. That's legal and the product is real, but it has consequences:
- Batch codes may be removed. FragranceNet notes that if a UPC or tracking code is missing or cut from a box, it happened in the supply chain after the product left the manufacturer. That's standard across discount fragrance and doesn't change what's in the bottle.
- Brand services may not apply. A brand's own guarantees or services usually cover only purchases from its authorised sellers.
- Older batches are possible. Stock can sit longer in the supply chain, which rarely matters for most scents but can for fragile citrus fragrances.

As of September 2026, FragranceNet's Trustpilot page shows a 4.5-star rating from more than 125,000 reviews, with customers mostly praising prices, selection and fast delivery. The company pays for a Trustpilot subscription, and Trustpilot notes it doesn't fact-check reviews, so treat any review score as a guide rather than proof. FragranceNet also reports an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, where the complaints that do appear mostly concern shipping delays and occasional doubts about a specific bottle.
